Dearest Darling Wife Just A Few Lines To Let You Know I Am Okay

File Size : 73.27 MB

Louise Weible is married to her husband, Larry. They have three children, Larry Jr., Timothy Wade, and Laura Louise. While a stay-at-home mother, when the children were young, she took a writing course with only a glimmer of where it might lead to. Later as a real estate agent, she found good fun in writing her own advertisements for the newspaper ads. Upon joining the Writers Group, a dormant dream began to emerge. With the groups encouragement she began to write a column for a local newspaper. And finally, at long last, she began a long dreamed of project that told of her mother and fathers meeting, courtship and marriage during W.W.II; most of which is portrayed through these letters from 1941 until 1945. It is written from Dads letters that he sent home and which Mom stored away with great care. It is a story of ordinary people with human frailties and strengths and some humor; longing and striving for what they believe will be an extraordinary life together when the war is over. She hopes you enjoy the reading of these letters as much as she did when she recorded them for her widowed mothers re-enjoyment but whose eyesight was failing. Her mother gave Louise the letters, knowing how much she had always treasured them and would keep them safe and intact. She transcribed these letters in this book with her mothers permission and blessing; as long as it was done honorably. She never once, upon reading these letters, read one that was not honorable. They depict the man, as he wasa loving, kind and gentle man who made promises. He kept those promises. He was our hero. He still is.

"I bet you think I have forgotten you... Well, I haven't." Three brothers go off to World War II. The youngest goes to the South Pacific. The middle brother to North Africa, then Italy, then France. The oldest was posted stateside. The brothers write home-over six hundred letters. They write about basic training, their worries over car insurance, the trip overseas, the hard, endless work, their flower gardens, how much they miss their mother's fruitcake, and life in the Army. The brothers are concerned about the war, each other, and the family back home. One faces more than just the enemy. Their letters, which I found in a box in my grandmother's house, span most of the war, from March 1942 to October 1945. They showcase my grand uncles' down-to-earth humanity, as well as their heroic journeys-all in "just a few lines."

Memory In Vergil S Aeneid

Author : Aaron M. Seider
ISBN : 9781107292529
Genre : History
File Size : 56.46 MB
Format : PDF, ePub, Mobi

Read : 263

Tracing the path from Troy's destruction to Rome's foundation, the Aeneid explores the transition between past and future. As the Trojans struggle to found a new city and the narrator sings of his audience's often-painful history, memory becomes intertwined with a crucial leitmotif: the challenge of being part of a group that survives violence and destruction only to face the daunting task of remembering what was lost. This book offers a new reading of the Aeneid that engages with critical work on memory and questions the prevailing view that Aeneas must forget his disastrous history in order to escape from a cycle of loss. Considering crucial scenes such as Aeneas' reconstruction of Celaeno's prophecy and his slaying of Turnus, this book demonstrates that memory in the Aeneid is a reconstructive and dynamic process, one that offers a social and narrative mechanism for integrating a traumatic past with an uncertain future.

Unflinching in his honesty, Powell deals frankly with the aftermath of the accident that took the life of his girlfriend and left him with injuries that affect him to this day. Leaders of the glam rock movement, Slade were the UK s biggest singles band in the years 1971-74. Their many hits have become rock n roll standards, not least Merry Christmas Everybody , arguably Britain s all-time favourite Christmas song. For Don Powell, though, success came at a price. Lucky to survive, the aftermath of his accident included alcoholism, financial woes and a life of reckless promiscuity. Now sober and settled in Denmark with an adopted family of his own, Don Powell s story as told to Lise Lyng Falkenberg is a no-nonsense journey to the heights and depths of the rock world.
