If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 God invites His people to pray and promises healing and forgiveness in response to those prayers. But how many Christians pray as the Bible teaches? This practical guide delves into the discipline of praying, seeking to help you understand the privilege, power, and purpose that can be derived from prayer. In The Uncommon Book of Prayer, Reverend Larry W. Ellis explores Jesus's model of prayer and why it must become our primary focus. Based on his belief that the ministry of prayer is no longer common among God's people, Reverend Ellis clearly explains how prayer has great power to change circumstances. Believers can improve their personal lives, change the condition of their communities, improve the economies of their nations, and ultimately bring hope to the world all through prayer. Each chapter includes questions for reflection and suggests ways to add discipline to prayer life. Making prayer a daily practice will ultimately bring you into a more intimate relationship with God.

Leadership makes a difference. Leaders directly impact the success or failure of any group or church. Excellent leaders direct churches to successfully accomplish their goals, fulfill their missions, and create a vibrant fellowship of believers who significantly influence their communities for Christ. Poor leaders can undermine the mission of a church, devastate the reputation of a fellowship, and sometimes dissolve the ministries of a congregation. The effects of average leaders are variable. They often allow churches to limp along, to become routine, even stale, or to just survive from week to week. Many factors challenge churches already, and ineffective leadership can make those challenges even more difficult to conquer. A primary reason why leaders struggle so often is a lack of understanding and training in the basic principles of genuine leadership. Further confounding this lack of understanding is the promotion of contemporary philosophies about leadership that can distort those basic concepts of leadership. This ignorance is not the fault of pastors who have a sincere desire to lead effectively, but the training in leadership at many seminaries is often limited. Leadership at the Crossroads addresses some of those concerns. What is leadership? What leadership style works best? How can ministers more effectively motivate their congregations? How can pastors direct the planning process, promote decision making, properly delegate responsibilities, and initiate change? What methods are effective in conflict resolution? These questions, as well as others, are addressed in Leadership at the Crossroads.

Chaos to Calm . . . Fulfilling Life’s Purpose Through Worship is a guiding light for those who are searching and disillusioned in their lack of fulfillment and purpose in life. It seeks to lead the discontented, dissatisfied, and unfulfilled down the only life-fulfilling passageway. A passageway leading to the only true Light and Giver of contentment and purpose—Jesus Christ—the One our hearts were created to worship. Before true worship can occur, we must first understand what worship is and to whom it is to be offered. Worship is not exclusively a Sunday morning activity. True worship encompasses every aspect of our lives: work, play, and church. Everything we say and do, every minute of every day, is to be offered as our worship. We must also realize that we do not come before a gentle Shepherd, but before the mighty terrifying King of Ezekiel and Revelation. As we see Jesus for who He truly is, we will then begin to “walk in the fear of the Lord.” Only as we see Jesus in His rightful state and walk in the fear of the Lord will we be able to express true worship and experience the fulfillment and purpose our hearts desire. For the believer, who in the midst of all his service and church related activities can find no relief from the discontentment of life, Chaos to Calm offers enlightenment in the knowledge that true contentment will never be ours until we fill the emptiness of our lives with Jesus Christ. Through Him alone were we created to be satisfied. Through Him alone all worship belongs.

We invite YOU to make a difference! In Just 10 Minutes a day...Join thousands as we lift up a prayer shield over "The Church, Your Community State Nation and the World". The World that God LOVES! Add YOUR prayer shield of faith over our land. In 2016, the first edition of 50 Days of Prayer, was published and distributed. It has been written by 14 Christian authors. You will notice different personalities and passion arise in each prayer. Some are prayer leaders, and some are pastors. We asked our authors from around the state to incorporate the scripture into each prayer. What you have before you is a powerful tool that will lead you to pray for topics that impact you but likely, you never thought to pray for. The Word does not return void but accomplishes that for which He sent it! (Isaiah 55:11). You will see the paraphrased Word woven throughout this book, so BELIEVE that your prayer will make a difference, because it will! This is very exciting! In 2019, we felt the Lord was calling us to enlarge the prayer territory. Our 50 Days of Prayer Team began to work with Pray Oregon to build a "Prayer Shield" over Oregon and the Nation. The goal is that on the first of every month more Counties will begin 50 Days of Prayer. This raises a continuous prayer shield over our state and nation all year long! As new communities are added, eventually every state will be bathed in continuous prayer. This prayer can spread like wildfire... the fire of God to bring healing to our people and nation. If each church catches the fire of His love to lift up passionate prayer over our people and land, we can expect a sweeping move of God. So, let's do it! Give 10 minutes to bring yourself and your family to God's throne of grace to find help for our people. Use this book as a launch pad to pray what God puts on your heart. Go for it! And thank you for praying! Linda Hanratty, (President of Tillamook County Wide Prayer Team) You can use this book by yourself, but it is often used by communities for specific prayer campaigns for 50 days. Communities are encouraged to use a prayer guide that contains info to go with many of the 50 days such as statistics or the names of office holders so that your prayers can be more specific for each day. We can provide your team with a template and instructions so that you can provide a reading guide for everyone who is participating in your 50 days of prayer campaign. We can even produce a custom book and reading guide for your community if you like. You can find out how to do this at our web site as listed on the forward page in the book. You are encouraged to share this book and information on how a community can use it for concentrated periods of prayer with any prayer leaders that you know. Terry Blaser, 50 Days of Prayer

Drawing on the remembrances of elders who were born in the early 1900s and saw the last masked Yupik dances before missionary efforts forced their decline, Agayuliyararput is a collection of first-person accounts of the rich culture surrounding Yupik masks. Stories by thirty-three elders from all over southwestern Alaska, presented in parallel Yupik and English texts, include a wealth of information about the creation and function of masks and the environment in which they flourished. The full-length, unannotated stories are complete with features of oral storytelling such as repetition and digression; the language of the English translation follows the Yupik idiom as closely as possible. Reminiscences about the cultural setting of masked dancing are grouped into chapters on the traditional Yupik ceremonial cycle, the use of masks, life in the qasgiq (communal mens house), the supression and revival of masked dancing, maskmaking, and dance and song. Stories are grouped geographically, representing the Yukon, Kuskokwim, and coastal areas. The subjects of the stories and the masks made to accompany them are the Arctic animals, beings, and natural forces on which humans depended. This book will be treasured by the Yupik residents of southwestern Alaska and an international audience of linguists, folklorists, anthropologists, and art historians.

Friends readers, This book has been prepared to help preachers both young and old to better focus on their audience. In Luke 11: 1, 18, we read that Jesus once prayed in a certain place. When he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples. We find no such request for preaching: "Lord, teach us to preach! Yet we believe that if there is one model the apostles most followed in their ministry, it is that of Christ. We would have liked the disciples to have made such a request. We would all have benefited from the advice of the great master of preachers. Indeed, the life and teaching of Jesus gives us lessons that can revolutionize our ministry of preaching. Let us observe with Pastor Moris Dereck:1. The preacher must preach the Word with the power of the Holy Spirit Jesus affirms that the Spirit of the Lord appointed him to preach the good news of salvation (Lk 4:18). Would it be too bold to say that we cannot preach the word of God without first being anointed by his Spirit? Jesus told his disciples (student preachers) to wait in Jerusalem until they receive the promise from the father (Acts 1.8). After being anointed at Pentecost, the disciples preached with the power of the Holy Spirit.Etienne is a good example. He is described as "full of faith and the Holy Spirit" (Acts 6.5), and also as "full of faith and power" (v. 8). When Stephen preached, his listeners "could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke" (v. 10). Even Etienne's non-verbal communication was irrefutable testimony "All those who sat on the Sanhedrin having fixed eyes on Etienne, their faces appeared to them like those of an angel" (v.15). His life demonstrated that when a person is filled with the Holy Spirit, he has great power. He preached with holy audacity (Ac 4.29-31; 13.6-12).If we follow the teaching of Jesus as found in Lk 11.7-13 and Jn 14.2-18, each of us can confidently declare that "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he anointed me to preach ".2. The preparation of the sermon must be bathed in prayer Jesus, the Master of Preachers, spent a lot of time in prayer. As he prepared to preach in the synagogues of Galilee, the Lord got up early in the morning, retired to a solitary place and prayed (Mk 1.35-39). Before preaching his sermon on the bread of life, Jesus spent hours in prayer (Mt 14.23-25). For him, preaching and praying went hand in hand. His disciples (student preachers) also realized that those who preached the word of God also had to spend time praying (Acts 6: 4). The intense moments of prayer that the disciples experienced before Pentecost were not only intended to prepare them to receive the Holy Spirit. It was also an essential condition for preaching with power. The apostle Paul affirmed the importance of prayer in the preparation and delivery of the sermon. He made a special request for an intercessory prayer (Eph 6.19). He understood that without prayer, he could not "speak confidently" (v.20).The lack of power of biblical preaching among us is directly related to the lack of power of our prayers. Peter's denial in the courtyard of the high priest's palace illustrates a disturbing truth: our testimony will be devoid of power if we sleep instead of pray. The lesson is clear. Pray, to be guided by God before you start preparing your sermon. Pray while you work on your sermon. Pray when you preach. Learn from the example of Jesus, that a powerful preaching is built first on prayer. Bathe the preparation and deliverance of your sermon in prayer.3. He must preach the word of God rather than his opinion Jesus proclaimed the word of God, both in his words and in his life. Boldly he declared: "The word which you hear is not mine, but that of the Father who sent me" (Jn 14:24). While praying for his disciples, he said to his father, "I have given them your word" (Jn 17:14)..... etc.
